Upcoming!

This week I will be posting a series on what 'Calvinism' is not. Since I have wasted all weekend messing around with the blog design I don't have the first post ready yet. But I'll go ahead and tell you what I am going to write.

Calvinists do not believe that mankind is incapable of performing good deeds.
Calvinists are not 'Fatalists'.
Calvinists do not believe that Christ's death is limited in it's power or scope. (Did I just hear a collective gasp of Calvinistic breath? You'll want to read this.)
Calvinists do not believe that God makes men into robots.
Calvinists do not believe Eternal Security.

So you guys better get that turkey out of your system! There's going to be a lot of heavy thinking going on at Doxoblogy this week. You might get thunk and need a ride home.

But, hey, what happens at Doxoblogy, stays at Doxoblogy!

Get the turkey out? Why as we read, I am doing up the best turkey vegetable soup anyone ever imagined.

Let's see...Calvanist must believe John 3:16, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have temporary, on-again-off-again, use it or lose it life."

John/Joe

He is stating that Eternal Security is totally different then Perserverence of the Saints.

Here's a quick little thing from my biblicalstudiesonline.com website

It seems as crystal clear to me that the warnings in the NT about losing faith and shipwrecking the faith are directed to everyone who calls themselves a believe.

The same can be said about the warnings in scripture
to keep us walking close to the Lord. We know that the true sheep of the Good Shepherd can't be plucked out of God's hand (John 10), but it also states throughout there is a faith that is temporary and doesn't save(Luke. 8.13).

Consider the following :

2 Timothy 1:16-19 "Avoid godless chatter, because those who indulge in it will become more and more ungodly. Their teaching will spread like gangrene.
Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus, who have wandered away from the truth. They say that the resurrection has already taken place, and they destroy the faith of some. Nevertheless, God's solid foundation stands firm,
sealed with this inscription: "The Lord knows those who are His"

Clearly God knows who are His and we realize that and this is the response of those who walk or shipwreck the faith. I think this is a firm foundation as well, though many find this idea uncomfortable. I'm not sure why, but it should cause us to Trust God much more and seek Him more.

Clearly Galatians 5:4; Hebrews 10:26-30 are directed at those who confess to believe but turn away from Christ.

Matthew 6:15 "But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins".

Luke 12:47 "That servant who knows his master's will and does not get ready or does not do what his master wants will be beaten with many blows." (Spoken to Peter)

John 5:14 "Later Jesus found him at the temple and said to him, "See, you are well again. Stop sinning or something worse may happen to you."

John 15:6 "If anyone does not remain in me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned."

Romans 8:13 "For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live, "

Galatians 6:7 "Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps
what he sows. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life."

Thanks Gadfly for the link; and I must say that heavy thinking is much better than the heavy drinking that goes on in a few dark corners of the blogsphere... oh no, I didn't just go there did I? There has already been enough blood spilled...

Looking forward to your thoughts Jeremy.
