This Is How We Know

This is how we know who God is,
God the Son laid down His glory.
This is how we know who God is,
We will sing this wondrous story.
Chorus:
God made man, Jesus is His name,
Perfect man, He is God's own Son,
Descending to earth to save us,
This is how he brings us Heaven.

This is how we know what grace is,
He sent His Son to save us.
This is how we know what grace is,
Sinners, vile, yet He redeems us.

This is how we know what love is,
Jesus Christ gave His life for us.
This is how we show what love is,
We lay down our lives for Jesus.

This is how we know His mercy,
Deserving hell He gives us heav'n,
This is how we know His mercy,
The peace of knowing sins forgiv'n.

Marc,
Fix this.

Jeremy, any chance that you will write on double-predestination?

Jeremy Weaver said...

Hmmm. Where'd that come from Jonathan?
If you want me to I will someday.

All this Calvinist talk has got me hoping someone will deal with DP. It seems like it is the doctrine of which we do not speak. I, for one, find it agreeable.

Jonathan,

Weird discussion in our praise. not my first thought.

Jeremy,

After Jonathan's note I have another topic for discussion about praise and hell.

How exactly will we praise God in heaven in the midst of his justice being poured out on the enemies of God in hell. It's something I can't fully comprehend with the fact that God doesn't delight in the death of the wicked, but there is something about heaven that will bring praise upon praise to God in the total destruction of Satan and God's Will coming to pass......I guess I'm not fully understanding this thought and if I wrote these wrong let me know, but there is something about vindication in the judgement that will somehow bring praise to God.....

Please forgive my ramblings as my mind is numb in my confusion over this today.

I should have said "confusion over this the last few years but thought about again when viewing Jonathan's statement

Jeremy,

have you been following the Rose Thread. Interesting discussion........

Shawn writes, "Weird discussion in our praise. not my first thought."

Romans 9:23-24 "“And what if God, desiring to display His wrath and to make His power known, endured with much patience objects of wrath ready for destruction? And what if He did this to make known the riches of His glory on objects of mercy that He prepared beforehand for glory”

Shawn, this appears to be doxological to me.

Jeremy,
At first it kind of reminded me of one of Steve Green's songs on the "Hide them in your heart" video that my kids have. We love it! Good song.

Shawn writes, “How exactly will we praise God in heaven in the midst of his justice being poured out on the enemies of God in hell.”

This brings to mind the Puritan notion that one does not truly understand the Gospel until he or she is willing to be damned for His glory. God is glorified through the damnation of sinners (sound Edwardsian?). Hence, the saints in heaven will glorify God for the attribute of His holy justice.

The difficult thing to comprehend (and this gets to the heart of Shawn’s question) is the hypothetical situation of being in heaven and praising God for the damnation of your children or parents.

P.S.- rethinking the double-predestination topic – I do suppose it sounded a bit “weird.” Things would be so much easier if everybody could just know what I was thinking :-)

Marc,
We're talking to you! Where are you? I need your help.
J Wendell,
Thanks. I'm trying to get Marc Heinrich (Purgatorio) to make it right though.

Shawn said...

Jon,
Agreed. Thanks, I do believe God is glorified as you have said though very hard for me to comprehend today.

John Wendell,

"This is how we know what love is. Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. " I love that Steve Green thing as my children do as well. Because of that video they like to hold their bibles in their beds.

It's a great way to memorize the scriptures.

Okay, I'm here... give me some time to take it all in.

Jeremy,
I like were you're going with this song. What kind of fixing are you looking for?

Moor and Antonio,
If I were to do a song on Double-Predestianation, what do you think of this for a title:

Damned if You Do, Damned if You Don't

J. Wendell said...

Marc,
those could also be the lyrics! Churches everywhere could sing it as one of those repetitious chorus and praise songs that seem to be so popular. One day who knows perhaps a worship leader would say "let us turn in our Hymnals to that blessed hymn... or you can follow along the words that are on the screen..."

Cheerfully in Christ, /:}
John

Marc,
I was just thinking the flow of thought was a bit choppy.
I couldn't find a tune to put it with. It just seems like it doesn't fit in anything.
You're the genius, you tell me what's wrong with it.

J Wendell,
Your comment on the other post was hilarious. I may have to change your endorsement!

Jeremy, it looks like we are both "Entertaining" to Phil now. Marc is simply "exceptional."

Jeremy Weaver said...

'Entertaining'. Is that a good or a bad thing?
Is it like going to the zoo and watching the baboons fight, or, watching Seinfeld?
